Workington secured a 2-1 victory at Bamber Bridge on Saturday, snapping a four-game winless streak and reinvigorating their bid for a play-off position. The result extended Bamber Bridge’s winless run to seven matches.

The first half ended goalless, despite Bamber Bridge appearing the more threatening side early on. Opportunities arose for Ashton Cookson, Archie Lang, and Jack Baxter, but none managed to break the deadlock. Workington gradually grew into the contest, with Tom Stephenson causing difficulties for the home defense, particularly for goalkeeper Charlie Brier.

The breakthrough came nine minutes into the second half when Luke Hunter, who notched his tenth goal of the season, capitalized on a lofted pass from Stephenson. Hunter ran onto the ball in the channel and calmly finished beyond Brier to give the visitors the lead.

Workington doubled their advantage later in the half through Rigg, who marked only his third appearance following a lengthy absence. Receiving the ball in a promising position, Rigg advanced forward and slid a shot past the Bamber Bridge goalkeeper to extend the visitors' lead.

Bamber Bridge pulled a late goal back in the second minute of stoppage time when Nathaniel Knight-Percival headed home from a cross delivered by center-back Andrew Teague. Despite this late goal stirring hopes of a comeback, Workington maintained their composure and held on for the victory under manager Billy Barr’s guidance.

The win provides a vital boost for Workington as they look to secure a spot in the play-offs, while Bamber Bridge faces mounting pressure amid their ongoing winless streak.
