Luke Campbell, the Reform UK mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire and a former Olympic boxing champion, is under police investigation over allegations that he showed naked and sexualized images of himself to a female colleague without her consent. The incident reportedly occurred in May, according to documents submitted as part of an internal grievance procedure at the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The woman involved stated she felt "shocked, embarrassed and humiliated" after being shown four explicit images on a computer screen by Campbell. She also claimed that she had a job offer withdrawn shortly afterward. Additional testimony from a witness described seeing images of a naked man with a tattoo, which contradicts some defense claims regarding the nature of the images. Another witness said the mayor’s reaction and that of some male colleagues involved laughing at the woman's embarrassment.
Campbell has denied the allegations, with a spokesperson for Reform UK asserting the claims originated from a disgruntled employee trying to secure a settlement in a dispute they described as meritless. The party is conducting an internal review following these accusations, while Humberside police continue their investigation; no arrests or charges have been made to date.
Nadine Dorries, a former Conservative minister who joined Reform UK last year, defended Campbell by stating on social media that the image shown was from a 2013 nude photoshoot he did for Gay Times magazine after winning Olympic gold in 2012. However, this explanation has been questioned due to differences between that published image and what witnesses described in the grievance documents.
The allegations against Campbell surfaced amid broader scrutiny of Reform UK, including a recent ITV undercover investigation that exposed racist remarks from some party councillors. This has led to suspensions and further internal inquiries within the party, which is also reportedly facing financial challenges.
The Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority confirmed the existence of an ongoing grievance and the police inquiry but declined further comment. Campbell has not responded publicly to repeated requests for comment on the matter.
