The inaugural Evolution Championship Series (Evo) tournament in the region has been rescheduled to take place from January 15 to 17, 2027, at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore. Originally planned for 2026, the date shift was confirmed by the event organiser on October 29 to better align with the global fighting game calendar.
The three-day competition will feature five popular fighting game titles: Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Guilty Gear (Strive), and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Participants will compete for a total prize pool of US$125,000 (approximately S$160,000). Matches in fighting games involve players engaging in one-on-one virtual battles, where the winner is determined either by knocking out the opponent or by holding a health lead when the timer expires. The tournament follows a double-elimination format, in which players are eliminated from title contention after two losses.
A key highlight of the event is its role as the venue for the Tekken World Tour (TWT) 2026 Global Finals, organised by Bandai Namco Entertainment. This season-ending finale carries its own prize purse of US$300,000 and marks the first occasion that the Tekken championship will be decided at an official Evo event. Evo described the partnership with Bandai Namco to host the Tekken finals as a “natural fit,” emphasizing the opportunity to celebrate Tekken’s competitive peak alongside the dedicated fighting game community in Singapore and the broader Southeast Asia region.
While the organiser did not disclose expected attendance figures for the Singapore event, it noted that the tournament will be a “smaller focused experience” centred on the five core titles and the TWT Global Finals. By comparison, the Evo event held in Las Vegas in June featured a prize pool of US$500,000 and attracted over 5,700 registered competitors. Evo highlighted that the scale of its Las Vegas event reflects decades of community growth and expressed optimism that the Singapore tournament could serve as a starting point for similar growth within Southeast Asia.
The move to host Evo in Singapore aligns with the city-state’s broader ambition to establish itself as a leading esports hub in the region. Lilian Chee, director of sports at the Singapore Tourism Board, said esports events represent a growth area for the country, contributing to its goal of becoming an international sporting hub alongside traditional sports.
Tickets for Evo Singapore are available for purchase through Trip.com, with prices ranging from S$30 to S$65.
