Cheshunt secured their first league victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Lewes on Saturday. The match, held at Cheshunt’s home ground, began with promising play from the visitors, but it was the home side who broke the deadlock early in the ninth minute.

The opening goal came from a set-piece situation on the right. Charlie Naylor’s free-kick was initially saved by Lewes goalkeeper Louis Rogers, who managed to parry the ball away but only to the back post. There, Cheshunt captain Raul Da Silva was quick to react and converted the rebound, putting the Ambers ahead. Lewes defender Vas Vasiliou made a crucial clearance by heading the ball off the line later in the first half, maintaining Cheshunt’s advantage.

Cheshunt extended their lead shortly before the hour mark. A well-delivered cross found Sam Granville at the far post, who headed the ball back across goal. Tommy Wood was on hand to finish and make it 2-0. The home side sealed the victory late in the match when Kenny Coker sent in a clipped cross that Granville met with a header to score his second and the team’s third in the 89th minute.

Lewes managed a late consolation goal during injury time through Mackenzie Richardson. They also hit the post in the closing moments, but were unable to mount a significant comeback as the match ended in favour of Cheshunt.

With this result, Cheshunt claimed their first league win of the campaign, a positive step after a challenging start to the season. Lewes, meanwhile, remain in search of a first league victory after the defeat.
