A 48-year-old religious teacher appeared at the Sessions Court in Ipoh to face three counts of sexual assault involving a 16-year-old student. The alleged offences are reported to have taken place at a secondary school in Ampang between November and December 2024.

The accused pleaded not guilty to charges brought under Sections 14(a) and 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act. If convicted, she could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

During the hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Arfahanim Azureen Arfanuddin requested that bail be denied, citing the non-bailable nature of the offences. In contrast, defence counsel Amira Sofea An-Nur Ahmad Basri argued for bail to be granted, highlighting that the accused is the sole breadwinner for her family.

Sessions Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad set bail at RM10,000 and scheduled the next mention and document submission for October 28.
