The remains of all five individuals who perished in the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash near Long Lellang, Baram, have been released to their families. Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah confirmed the handover took place at Hospital Miri, where the victims’ bodies were identified and prepared following post-mortem examinations.

The helicopter, a BO-105 operated by Layang-Layang Aerospace, crashed near the end of the Long Lellang STOLport runway at approximately 3:40 p.m. on September 8. All five people on board were killed in the accident.

According to Comm Mohamad Zainal, the post-mortem procedures were completed at the Forensic Department of Hospital Miri on the night of September 10. In addition to releasing the remains, authorities have also returned the victims’ personal belongings to their respective next of kin.

Families of three of the victims have already begun funeral preparations, with arrangements ongoing. Further transportation and final rites will be coordinated by the families, supported by relevant organizations as necessary.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing, with officials maintaining a focus on ensuring all necessary procedures have been followed to support the victims’ families and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
