Representative Jasmine Crockett has declined to endorse Texas Senate primary winner James Talarico, her former Democratic rival, and expressed skepticism about his support among Black voters. Talarico’s campaign confirmed that he recently reached out to Crockett, leaving a voice message inviting her to deliver a keynote address at the upcoming Democratic Party convention. However, Crockett said she did not listen to the message and described the invitation as an “afterthought.”

Crockett, who is retiring from Congress, indicated she does not plan to attend the convention or actively campaign for Talarico. Speaking to the Dallas Morning News, she said her focus was more on down-ballot races rather than on endorsing Talarico. She also criticized the party’s reaction to her stance, which she described as backlash.

Regarding Talarico’s appeal within the Black community, Crockett expressed doubt, saying she had not seen widespread enthusiasm or unity in his favor. The comments highlight lingering divisions within the Texas Democratic Party following the March primary, which Talarico won over Crockett.

Her decision to refrain from endorsing the nominee contrasts with the typical practice of party unity after a primary contest. Talarico’s campaign did not provide further comment on Crockett’s response. The race is closely watched as Democrats seek to maintain control in the Texas Senate amid a challenging political environment.
