Emergency services evacuated hundreds of residents near the Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkestone following a significant fire that raised concerns about the building’s structural integrity. Firefighters were dispatched to the hotel, located in The Harbour area, shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, with early indications suggesting the fire originated in the basement, according to Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Initial efforts led to the evacuation of approximately 280 people from the hotel itself. Later on Saturday evening, safety inspectors identified potential structural weaknesses in the affected building, prompting Folkestone and Hythe District Council to extend evacuations to include around 90 residents from Pavilion Court on Marine Terrace, located nearby.

Kent Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with officers considering the possibility that the fire was deliberately set. Authorities have confirmed that no injuries or casualties have been reported as of this time. Fire crews and safety officials continue to assess the site to determine the full extent of the damage and the necessary steps for public safety.
