Daffodil International University (DIU) in Birulia, Savar, is advancing a holistic approach to higher education, emphasizing skills development, sustainability, and global engagement to better prepare students for evolving professional and societal demands. The university’s strategy integrates entrepreneurship, industry collaboration, and international partnerships with an underlying focus on critical thinking and social responsibility.
Recognizing that university education extends beyond lectures and exams, DIU encourages students to develop analytical and creative capacities. Through activities such as case studies, debates, research projects, and hands-on laboratory work, students are trained to assess diverse viewpoints, challenge assumptions, and apply knowledge pragmatically. The university regards creativity as a cultivated skill, fostering it through media projects and specialized coursework aimed at problem-solving from novel perspectives.
Entrepreneurship plays a key role in DIU’s educational model. The Innovation and Incubation Center (IIC) and the Daffodil Business Incubator (DBI) provide platforms for students to convert ideas into viable ventures. Over the past decade, initiatives like the Startup Market and Learn and Earn programs have supported approximately 2,000 students in launching their own businesses. This focus seeks to move beyond traditional job placement by inspiring students to generate employment opportunities themselves.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of both campus life and academic learning at DIU. The university’s campus, branded as Daffodil Smart City, features green spaces designed to highlight the interplay between development and the environment. A collaboration with Paramount Solar Limited has resulted in a 3.4-megawatt rooftop solar project expected to reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 4,000 tonnes annually, an environmental impact equated to planting roughly 60,000 trees. Beyond energy, sustainability at DIU encompasses social equity through robust scholarship programs covering 36 categories, benefiting over 133,000 students since 2009. Additionally, the Daffodil Institute of Social Sciences offers fully funded education and nutritional aid to disadvantaged children, extending the university’s commitment to inclusive access.
Internationalization remains a strategic priority. DIU has established academic partnerships with more than 690 universities and holds memberships in over 55 international organizations, including the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the International Association of Universities (IAU), United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), and IEEE. From 2020 to 2025, more than 2,600 students participated in exchange programs, exposing them to diverse academic and cultural environments. The presence of international students and faculty further enriches the campus culture. These efforts have contributed to DIU’s recognition in global rankings, including a top 100 placement in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026 and notable standings in the QS World University Rankings and US News Best Global Universities Rankings.
To bridge academic learning with professional readiness, DIU’s Career Development Center employs an Employability-360 Degree model, working closely with over 500 corporate partners. This network facilitated internships and job placements for more than 1,000 students over the past two years. The university also prioritizes communication, teamwork, and emotional resilience, exemplified by its Art of Living course that fosters self-reflection and interpersonal skills. Further supporting its community, DIU offers a group life insurance policy for students and guardians, having disbursed claims exceeding Tk15 crore, thereby providing financial security during unforeseen hardships.
Through an integrated approach combining academic rigor, practical experience, and global exposure, DIU aims to equip graduates not only with degrees but also with the competencies necessary to navigate complex professional landscapes, contribute to community welfare, and address broader societal challenges.
