Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 N has been named the 2026 World Performance Car of the Year, marking a significant achievement for the electric vehicle segment by combining high performance with everyday usability. Unveiled earlier this year, the Ioniq 6 N is designed to deliver both racetrack capability and practicality for daily driving.

The car features an 84kWh battery powering dual electric motors that produce 448kW of output and 740Nm of torque. Engaging the "N Grin Boost" mode temporarily increases power to 478kW and torque to 770Nm for 10 seconds. This configuration propels the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The Ioniq 6 N supports 800V fast charging, allowing the battery to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

Styling-wise, the Ioniq 6 N presents an aggressive and aerodynamic profile, sporting contrasting multi-colored body panels, prominent lower aero splitters, and a large rear wing. It rides on lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli tires, and features sizeable high-performance brake calipers. The design underscores Hyundai’s intent to create an EV with genuine supercar performance.

Inside, the spacious cabin accommodates five adults comfortably. The interior design shares elements with the standard Ioniq 6, though it notably lacks door-mounted controls, instead centralizing features within the cockpit. A column-mounted gear selector, similar to that found in Hyundai’s Palisade SUV, replaces traditional gear levers, and a drawer replaces the conventional glovebox. Sporty cloth bucket seats offer heating and ventilation, while the rear provides ample space for passengers. The boot space measures 371 liters and includes a visible orange cross-brace that adds structural stiffness and hints at the car’s performance focus.

One of the vehicle’s standout features is Hyundai’s N e-Shift software, which simulates an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This system offers paddle shifters, a virtual rev limiter, and simulated engine sounds, including crackling and downshift jolts. This technology enhances driver engagement by mimicking the tactile and auditory experience of a high-performance combustion engine, a departure from the typically silent operation of electric vehicles.

The Ioniq 6 N’s recognition as World Performance Car of the Year further distinguishes Hyundai’s commitment to advancing electric performance vehicles. It surpassed competitors such as the BMW M2 CS and Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, underscoring its status as a trailblazer in the evolving landscape of electrified sports cars. The accolade follows the 2024 award given to the Ioniq 5 N hatchback, reflecting Hyundai’s growing expertise in blending electric powertrain technology with dynamic driving experiences.
