Rapper William Leonard Roberts, known professionally as Rick Ross, was arrested Thursday in Miami on charges related to domestic violence, according to court records. Roberts surrendered voluntarily and pleaded not guilty to both felony and misdemeanor battery charges. He was released on a $5,000 bail.

The charges stem from an incident reported to have occurred on August 28 involving Roberts and his then-girlfriend, identified only as “JK” in court documents. According to the records, the woman told police that Roberts became enraged after seeing she had been tagged in a photograph on Instagram, prompting a series of alleged physical assaults. The documents describe Roberts striking her multiple times, including slapping her and hitting her on the chest when she denied accusations of being involved with another person.

The complaint states Roberts choked the woman by twisting the collar of her hooded sweatshirt “to the point that she could not breathe,” grabbed her ponytail, slammed her against a wall, and struck her in the face, causing her lip to bleed. The woman reportedly escaped after Roberts pushed her to the floor and tried to spray her with water from a shower head. Though she initially called a friend for help, the friend was turned away by Roberts. The woman waited for Roberts to leave before gathering her belongings and leaving the residence. The couple had lived together for about a year prior to the incident.

While the victim’s identity remains confidential in the police filing, reports have linked the woman to Jazzma Kendrick, a model and content creator. Kendrick posted photographs on social media over the weekend showing injuries she said resulted from Roberts’s actions, including a swollen lip. Accompanying the images was a caption referring to “the day Rick busted my lip and the day I left.” According to reports, the couple had been together since at least August 2023.

Roberts’s arraignment is scheduled for October 2. No immediate comment was available from his legal representation, and Kendrick could not be reached for comment.

This is not Roberts’s first legal issue involving allegations of violence. In 2015, he faced charges including kidnapping, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault after two employees accused him and a bodyguard of pistol-whipping them at his estate in Fayetteville, Georgia. Roberts and the bodyguard entered a plea deal in 2017, pleading no contest to misdemeanor kidnapping and assault charges and receiving five years of probation.

Roberts, 50, is known for his music career, with hits such as “Hustlin’” and the Drake collaboration “Money in the Grave.”
