Former England international striker Rickie Lambert has taken on a new role with Newport Isle of Wight, a Step 5 club competing in the Wessex League. The 44-year-old, who played for notable clubs including Southampton and Liverpool during his career, has been appointed vice-president of Newport Isle of Wight as the team embarks on a new chapter.
Lambert’s involvement with the club has deepened over the past three years, during which he has supported the club through a challenging period that threatened its survival. Last Saturday, he attended the official opening of Newport Isle of Wight’s new stadium, Wightfibre Park, where he engaged with players, club volunteers, and supporters.
Throughout his distinguished playing career, Lambert scored 218 goals in 607 senior appearances. In accepting the vice-presidential role, he expressed a particular sense of honor given the club’s recent progress and the opportunities presented by the new facilities.
Newport Isle of Wight looks to leverage Lambert’s experience and profile as it moves forward from difficult times and embraces the potential offered by its new home ground.
