The Saskatchewan Roughriders will host the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night in a critical West Division matchup that could have playoff implications. Saskatchewan (8-6) seeks to complete a season sweep of Calgary (7-8) following a 40-37 overtime victory earlier this year in June. A win by four or more points for Calgary would even the season series and potentially grant the Stampeders the tiebreaker should the teams conclude the regular season with identical records.

Calgary enters the contest after a 31-24 loss on the road to the B.C. Lions, which handed B.C. the tiebreaker advantage between those two teams. The Stampeders, the defending Grey Cup champions, recently swept a two-game home-and-home series against the Ottawa Redblacks, with quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. throwing for 422 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s 45-31 win. Receivers Jalen Philpot, Tevin Jones, and Clark Barnes each surpassed 100 receiving yards in that game.

Saskatchewan, meanwhile, has lost its last two games. Quarterback Trevor Harris passed for 297 yards and a touchdown against B.C. last week and led an offense that controlled the ball for nearly 34 minutes. However, the Lions’ Nathan Rourke threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns in the same contest.

Calgary boasts the league’s top offense, averaging 33.1 points and 53 touchdowns per game, and ranks second in passing touchdowns with 31. The Roughriders counter with a strong defensive effort, having allowed the fewest offensive touchdowns in the CFL (35) and second-fewest points per game (25.5). Calgary’s defense has given up 34 sacks this season, one of the highest totals, while Saskatchewan’s defense has registered 32 sacks, second only to Toronto.

In the East Division, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-11) visit the Ottawa Redblacks (0-14), with both teams eliminated from playoff contention and seeking to break recent losing streaks. Hamilton has lost five consecutive games, including a narrow 37-35 overtime defeat to Edmonton that ended their postseason hopes. Hamilton’s Harrison Frost completed 17 of 34 passes for 214 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in that game. Ottawa is expected to continue with McLeod Bethel-Thompson at quarterback, who passed for 418 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s loss to Calgary. The Redblacks’ offense produced 475 net yards, but Calgary outgained them 520 yards overall. Hamilton ranks last in both total offensive yards (330.4) and passing yards (253.3) per game, while Ottawa is near the bottom in scoring offense.

On Saturday afternoon, the Toronto Argonauts (9-6) seek a fifth consecutive victory when they host the B.C. Lions, who are aiming for a third straight win. The Argonauts have already secured second place in the East Division. Toronto quarterback Chad Kelly leads the CFL in passing yards (5,067) and touchdowns (33), but also tops interceptions (24) and has been limited in practice this week due to hand issues. If unable to play, veteran Nick Arbuckle is expected to start. B.C. relies on Nathan Rourke and running back Zander Horvath, who leads the league with 16 rushing touchdowns and is nearing CFL records for rushing and total touchdowns in a season.

Later on Saturday night, the Montreal Alouettes (11-3) host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-7) in a game with first-place East Division implications. Montreal, unbeaten 7-0 at home this season and 9-2 after bye weeks under head coach Jason Maas, can clinch first place with a win combined with a Toronto loss. Winnipeg will start Dru Brown at quarterback due to an injury to Zach Collaros. Brown completed 16 of 28 passes for 193 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions last week in a close 30-28 loss to Toronto but helped the Blue Bombers defeat Montreal 44-28 in their previous meeting in August.

This week’s games carry significant consequences for playoff seeding as teams fight to secure divisional position before the CFL postseason begins.
