Bolton Wanderers secured a 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Championship match at Molineux Stadium on Tuesday, handing Wolves their first home defeat of the season. The result marked a significant achievement for Bolton, who claimed consecutive away wins for the first time since October 2024, climbing to 14th place in the league standings.
The visitors opened the scoring just before the 30-minute mark. A cross from the right by Josh Sheehan caused Wolves goalkeeper José Sá to misjudge the ball, allowing Atsuki Ito to capitalize on a weak headed clearance from Ladislav Krejci and score from close range. Wolves responded early in the second half when Jean-Ricner Bellegard controlled a diagonal pass from Krejci behind the Bolton defense and calmly placed a shot into the left corner, beating Bolton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
Wolves then missed a key opportunity to take the lead. Substitute Rafiki Said, making his home debut, delivered an incisive low ball from the left flank, but Bazunu made a timely save to deny Adam Armstrong’s first-time effort.
Bolton regained the advantage when Sam Dalby converted a cutback from Gaizka Larrazabal on the right side. The decisive moment came in the 82nd minute when Sheehan controlled a dropping ball approximately 25 yards from goal and struck a precise shot with the outside of his boot into the top-right corner, sealing the win for Bolton.
The victory marked Bolton’s third triumph in four matches, illustrating their improved form in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Wolves experienced their first defeat at home this season, a setback following a strong start to the campaign. Both teams showed moments of attacking promise, but Bolton’s clinical finishing and defensive resilience ultimately proved decisive.
