Saudi Arabia is strengthening its role in global discussions on artificial intelligence governance by hosting the 4th UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Riyadh. The event, held under the joint auspices of UNESCO, the Saudi Data and AI Authority, and the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), brought together representatives from 194 countries to address the ethical challenges posed by AI technologies.

Jawaher Al-Oufaisan, international cooperation adviser for AI research and ethics at ICAIRE, highlighted the significance of the forum taking place in Riyadh. She described Saudi Arabia as an active international partner in AI governance and ethics, noting that the country's hosting of the forum marks a milestone as the first Arab nation to organize this global event. Al-Oufaisan emphasized that the forum’s agenda focused on fostering ideas to safeguard humanity in the evolving digital landscape.

ICAIRE, established in Riyadh and designated as a Category 2 Center under the auspices of UNESCO, plays a central role in advancing AI research and developing ethical frameworks on an international level. The center’s involvement in co-hosting the forum reflects its mission to serve as a global hub for collaboration and knowledge exchange in AI ethics.

The gathering featured discussions on regulatory frameworks, ethical principles, and cooperative strategies to ensure the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence.
