National Highways Limited has announced a temporary traffic regulation order for the A69 trunk road in Newcastle Upon Tyne to facilitate essential loop cut works. The planned closure will affect the eastbound carriageway between the exit slip road at West Denton and the Denton Burn Interchange roundabout, covering a stretch of approximately 1,500 metres. Additionally, the entry slip road at West Denton will be closed during this period.
The work is scheduled to begin on the evening of Thursday, November 5, 2026, and is expected to last for one night or until completion. The closure will be in effect between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., allowing National Highways to carry out the necessary maintenance safely and efficiently. Alternative routes will be clearly signposted to guide drivers around the affected section throughout the duration of the closure.
The traffic restrictions will not apply to emergency service vehicles or those involved directly with the works or winter maintenance operations. The regulation order will come into force on November 4, 2026, and may remain in place for up to eighteen months to accommodate any unforeseen delays or additional works.
Motorists seeking further information are advised to contact Stuart Allanson or reach out to the National Highways Customer Contact Centre via phone at 0300 123 5000 or by email at info@nationalhighways.co.uk. The coordination of these works is managed by National Highways from their Leeds office.
