Robbie Williams, the former Take That frontman, has been named an ambassador for National Album Day, an event celebrating the cultural significance of music albums. At 52 years old, Williams will receive the title of Album Icon as part of the initiative, which is scheduled for October 17. To mark the occasion, his 2000 studio album *Sing When You’re Winning* will be reissued on vinyl.
Williams emphasized the enduring relevance of albums in the music industry, stating that artists continue to value the format. “Ask any artist: albums still matter,” he said, expressing his enthusiasm for participating in this year’s National Album Day. His reissued album is one of several planned releases and reissues linked to the event, which is organized by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and the Entertainment Retailers Association. Programming tied to National Album Day will be featured on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds.
Williams joins other notable artists such as PinkPantheress and Melanie C in being recognized as an Album Icon this year. The initiative aims to spotlight the artistic importance of albums, promoting both new works and classic records through various releases and media platforms, with further announcements expected.
Throughout his career, Williams has achieved significant commercial success, including seven UK number-one singles and 16 UK number-one albums. He is also the most decorated artist in Brit Awards history, having won 18 awards. A spokesperson for National Album Day highlighted Williams’s status as a music icon and noted his contribution to raising awareness about the cultural value of the album format.
