Robbie Savage has been offered the managerial position at Peterborough United, his current club Forest Green Rovers confirmed. The 51-year-old former Wales international and current Forest Green manager was granted permission to hold discussions with Peterborough, with both clubs now negotiating terms.

Forest Green chairman Dale Vince stated that Savage requested to leave the club for personal reasons, which were understood and respected by the club. Vince also extended well wishes to Savage as negotiations proceed.

Savage, who earned 39 caps for Wales during his playing career, was appointed Forest Green manager in July 2025. Prior to this role, he managed non-League side Macclesfield. Under his leadership, Forest Green finished seventh in the previous season before being eliminated in the play-offs. This season, the club sits 12th in the National League after ten matches.

Peterborough United, competing in League One, dismissed their previous manager Luke Williams on September 19 following a poor start to the season. The team currently occupies 23rd place in the league, with just one victory in their first eight games. Savage’s appointment is seen as an effort to improve the club’s fortunes.

Savage did not take charge of Forest Green’s National League fixture against Wealdstone on Monday, in line with his ongoing talks with Peterborough. Further details on the managerial appointment and contract terms are expected as negotiations continue.
