Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson expressed confidence that new signing Chris Cadden will win over supporters who may be initially skeptical of the player’s arrival from a rival Scottish Premiership club. Cadden joined the Dons from Hibernian, with Robinson noting that players recruited from within the league often face lower expectations compared to those arriving from abroad or English clubs.

Robinson highlighted that Aberdeen paid a transfer fee for Cadden and emphasized the midfielder’s strong motivation to play regularly rather than remain sidelined. The Northern Irish manager pointed out that Cadden could have continued at a well-established club like Hibernian but chose to move to Pittodrie to secure more consistent game time.

“He didn’t want to just sit on the bench and collect a paycheck,” Robinson said. “He wanted to come and play regular football. We’re not guaranteeing he’ll start every week, but he’s come with the intention to contribute on the pitch.” Robinson stressed the importance of recruiting players committed to the club’s ambitions, rather than those who seem to do it as a favor.

Cadden, a Scotland international, has a history with Robinson dating back to their time together at Motherwell, where Cadden made his professional debut as a teenager. Since then, Cadden’s career has included spells in Major League Soccer with Columbus Crew, a loan at Oxford United, and five years at Hibernian.

Robinson praised Cadden’s development and professionalism, describing him as an “experienced SPFL player in the prime of his career” who brings pace, energy, and the ability to deliver consistent crosses. The manager also highlighted Cadden’s versatility across the right flank, noting that he has played in various roles including right back, right wing back, right-sided winger, and even centrally in defense during certain games.

Cadden made a positive start to his Aberdeen career with a late goal contributing to a 2-1 victory over Hearts in his debut match. Robinson said the player’s enthusiasm and leadership qualities have already made an impact within the squad.

Aberdeen will aim to maintain their perfect start to the season when they face Dundee away from home later this week.
