Robert Carlyle has been confirmed to join the cast of the third season of Guy Ritchie’s television series, The Gentlemen. The Bafta-winning Scottish actor will appear alongside returning stars Theo James and Vinnie Jones in the Netflix production.
Carlyle, known for his breakout role as Begbie in Trainspotting nearly 30 years ago, is set to become a key addition to the series as it continues to build on its success. According to insiders, James has expressed enthusiasm about working with Carlyle, describing him as an ideal fit for the show’s tone. While there had been rumors about Meghan Markle joining the series, sources confirmed she will not be part of the upcoming season. A spokesperson indicated that, after discussions, the decision was made to exclude Markle from the cast.
The Gentlemen first premiered in 2024 and quickly garnered significant viewership, with the initial season surpassing 75 million streams. The show features a star-studded ensemble including Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Kaya Scodelario, and Vinnie Jones. The second season maintained strong streaming numbers, attracting 22 million views within its first three weeks.
Maya Jama, who joined the series in its second season as the character Aisha, is also set to return with a more prominent role in the upcoming season. Her expanded part reflects the show’s ongoing development and appeal.
Cast member Vinnie Jones publicly dismissed the possibility of Markle’s involvement, describing the idea as unfeasible and inappropriate given the show’s content and tone.
With Carlyle’s addition, The Gentlemen’s third season aims to sustain and potentially increase its strong audience engagement on Netflix, continuing the momentum established by its earlier runs.
