Actor Robert De Niro has publicly criticized Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, over his ongoing legal actions related to his association with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Speaking at an event in New York advocating for the further release of Epstein files, the 83-year-old actor urged Andrew to withdraw his lawsuit against the police and the Old Bailey.
De Niro’s comments come ahead of a High Court hearing in London scheduled for Wednesday, where Andrew’s bid to quash search warrants linked to his arrest will be considered. The former royal was detained by Thames Valley Police on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, stemming from his interactions with Epstein.
In 2022, Andrew settled a civil claim brought by Epstein survivor Virginia Giuffre, reportedly paying around £12 million, though he has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The lawsuit in question concerns allegations that during police raids, officers seized personal items unrelated to the ongoing criminal investigation.
De Niro called for accountability from all parties involved, emphasizing that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor should apologize for his association with Epstein and cease his legal challenge. “Everybody who was involved should,” the actor said, urging the former duke to drop the case.
Meanwhile, Andrew’s legal team maintains the challenge is necessary to address what they describe as inappropriate seizure of personal property during the investigation. The outcome of the High Court hearing will determine whether the warrants and items seized will stand or be overturned as part of the ongoing inquiry into the former royal’s links with Epstein.
