Columbia, Mo. — Missouri secured a decisive 45-17 victory over eighth-ranked Florida on Saturday, marking the Tigers’ first win against a top-10 team under head coach Eli Drinkwitz and ending a nine-game losing streak against ranked opponents.

Quarterback Austin Simmons threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Jamal Roberts powered the ground game with 211 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Tigers amassed a total of 560 yards of offense in the contest at Faurot Field. Wide receiver Cayden Lee contributed eight receptions for 110 yards, and Donovan Olugbode and Caleb Goodie Jr. each scored on touchdown catches.

Missouri (4-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) rebounded from a late collapse in last week’s game against Mississippi State to contain one of the nation’s most productive offenses. Florida (4-1, 2-1 SEC), which entered averaging over 530 yards per game, was held to 325 yards by Missouri’s defense. Florida’s star running back Jadan Baugh, who had garnered early Heisman Trophy consideration after scoring 11 touchdowns in the first four games of the season, was limited to 13 yards on 12 carries and frequently struggled behind the line of scrimmage.

Gators quarterback Aaron Philo completed 197 yards and one touchdown, though much of his production came while Florida was trailing. The Gators were also without wide receiver Vernell Brown III, the team’s leading receiver, who sat out due to a strained right knee.

Missouri’s defense placed particular emphasis on neutralizing Baugh, allowing him just a single additional yard after an initial 12-yard run early in the game. Florida’s head coach Jon Sumrall acknowledged Missouri’s physical play and accepted responsibility for his team’s performance, stating, “They deserved the win. We earned the loss. We have a lot to work on.”

The game’s momentum shifted late in the first half when Florida went three-and-out, setting up a 50-yard field goal by Missouri’s Blake Craig as time expired in the opening half, extending the Tigers’ lead to 20-10. The second half saw Missouri continue to enlarge its advantage, with Roberts contributing key rushing touchdowns, including a 76-yard run late in the third quarter and an 80-yard touchdown early in the fourth.

Coach Drinkwitz praised his team’s effort, saying it was “an awesome win for our community, for our state and more importantly for our team.” Despite missing starting edge rushers Darris Smith and Langden Kitchen to lower-body injuries, Missouri’s defensive unit proved instrumental in containing the potent Florida attack.

Florida has now lost four of its last five games played at Missouri’s home stadium, continuing a difficult stretch in Columbia. Missouri improved to 4-1 on the season with the statement win against a top-ranked opponent.
