Advertisements for caffeinated potato chips were shown to young children on the popular online gaming platform Roblox, according to a consumer advocacy group. The ads promoted Banger chips and appeared in a game titled “Obby but You’re on a Bike” as recently as last Friday, the group said.

Truth in Advertising, which monitors marketing practices, highlighted that the advertisements reached players as young as five years old. The game in question carries Roblox’s lowest maturity rating and has accumulated approximately 2 billion visits, indicating widespread exposure among children.

Roblox’s policy, updated in May, prohibits ads featuring food and beverage products targeted at children under 13. Following the report, Roblox promptly removed the Banger chips advertisements. The company stressed that it has introduced a new “brand integration hub” requiring creators to register marketing partnerships and submit campaigns for approval before launching any advertisements on the platform.

Roblox, which is headquartered in San Francisco and valued at $4.9 billion, has recently faced scrutiny from multiple states over child safety concerns. Attempts to obtain comment from Banger, also based in San Francisco, were unsuccessful.
