Tom Roebuck has been recalled to the England rugby squad for the final two matches of the Nations Championship, stepping in to replace the injured George Furbank. The 25-year-old Sale wing was notably absent from head coach Steve Borthwick’s original 36-man squad but had made three starts during the Six Nations earlier this year. Roebuck's call-up comes following Furbank’s unexpected appendix removal last Friday, which ruled him out of England’s recent 45-21 defeat to South Africa at Ellis Park. Furbank remains in Johannesburg undergoing treatment before his planned return to the United Kingdom.

Roebuck previously impressed during the autumn internationals before suffering a broken toe. He returned to play against Wales on 14 February and now gets another opportunity with England’s fixtures against Fiji and Argentina remaining in the Nations Championship.

In addition to Roebuck’s return, England’s full-back Freddie Steward is expected to be available for Saturday’s match against Fiji at Hill Dickinson Stadium after recovering from a rolled ankle. Meanwhile, Cadan Murley’s status remains uncertain as his shoulder injury is still under evaluation.

The Nations Championship features new competitive dynamics, with teams looking to improve on previous campaigns. Cardiff winger Josh Adams highlighted that Wales, having conceded 125 points to Argentina and South Africa during Steve Tandy’s first season in charge last autumn, are now more prepared following their recent 39-24 victory over Fiji. Adams expressed confidence that opposing teams will face a more developed Welsh side compared to the previous year’s performances.

England will look to solidify their position in the Nations Championship with Roebuck’s inclusion as they prepare to face Fiji and Argentina in the coming fixtures.
