The Royal Oman Police (ROP) will participate in the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking on June 26, 2026, joining global efforts to highlight the critical challenges posed by drug-related issues. The annual event aims to reinforce the importance of intensifying measures to safeguard societal security and protect individual health and stability from the risks associated with drug abuse and trafficking.
This year’s focus will address evolving trends in drug trafficking and consumption, particularly the emergence of new substances and the use of modern technologies and social media platforms in facilitating narcotics distribution. In response, the ROP and related authorities plan to implement public awareness initiatives and enhance international collaboration to mitigate the impact of these developments.
As part of the commemorative activities, the ROP has scheduled a sports event at Al Mouj Walk in the Wilayat of Al Seeb on June 27, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event is expected to draw participation from various segments of Omani society and serve as a platform for community engagement on the issue.
Following the sports event, on June 28, the Directorate-General for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances will host an exhibition at Muscat Mall, also located in the Wilayat of Al Seeb. The exhibition will showcase the security roles and efforts undertaken by the Directorate-General in addressing drug abuse and controlling the spread of psychotropic substances.
Through these coordinated activities, Omani authorities seek to raise public consciousness about the dangers of narcotics, promote prevention strategies, and reinforce the nation’s commitment to combating drug-related threats in the context of shifting patterns and technological advancements.
