TANJUNG MALIM — The Registrar of Societies (ROS) did not suspend Perikatan Nasional arbitrarily but acted following a complaint from one of its component parties, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Speaking at the Central Zone Polytechnic and Community College Convocation Ceremony at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris on Thursday, Ahmad Zahid acknowledged that Perikatan Nasional faced certain internal shortcomings that contributed to the suspension.

He emphasized that the ROS exercises its authority in accordance with the constitutions of registered organizations and bodies, suggesting that the action taken was procedural rather than politically motivated.

On the topic of political cooperation in Melaka, Ahmad Zahid stated that Barisan Nasional remains open to dialogue with any coalition or party interested in forging an understanding. He announced that he had authorized Melaka Barisan chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and his team to initiate talks.

“I and my colleagues in the Barisan supreme council and Umno leadership will finalise the matter after the discussions and negotiations have been conducted by Melaka Barisan,” he said, highlighting a structured approach to coalition-building in the state.

The statement comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of upcoming regional elections, where cooperation among political parties could play a decisive role in shaping governing coalitions.
