Rotherham secured their first home win since February as Paul Mullin scored a late winner to clinch a 2-1 victory over Chesterfield on Saturday. Mullin, recently signed from Wrexham, netted his maiden goal for the Millers in the final moments of the match, handing new manager Alex Bruce his first win in charge.

Fabio Tavares had given Rotherham the early lead, but the visitors were awarded a penalty which Tom Bradshaw failed to convert. Chesterfield’s Liam Mandeville equalized in the 88th minute, setting up a tense finish. Mullin then came off the bench to score the decisive goal in a one-on-one opportunity, which Bruce praised as a composed and clinical finish.

Elsewhere in League Two action, Salford City’s struggles continued as they fell 1-0 to Shrewsbury Town, who entered the match without a point this season. Will Boyle scored the only goal of the game. Salford’s head coach Peter Cklamovski, appointed this summer, is yet to earn a win after three consecutive defeats in all competitions, including a recent penalty shootout loss to the same opponents in the Carabao Cup. Cklamovski acknowledged the difficult start, stating the team has “dug ourselves into a little hole.”

Meanwhile, promoted Rochdale remain without points following a narrow 1-0 defeat at Colchester United. Substitute Jaden Williams secured the late winner for Colchester in Essex.

In contrast, York City are showing early signs of promise in their return to the Football League, moving up to third place after a 2-1 victory over Exeter City at home.
