The Royal Mint has released two commemorative 50p coins to mark the 60th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise. Available from today, the coins celebrate the popular science fiction series that first aired in 1966.

One coin features a Vulcan salute, famously associated with the character Spock, alongside the phrase “Live long and prosper.” The second coin depicts four spacecraft from various eras of the show, including the iconic USS Enterprise. Both coins bear the inscription “Star Trek 60” and incorporate color elements inspired by the vivid uniforms worn by characters throughout the series.

Tim Mulhall, head of fandom at the Royal Mint, described the release as a unique way to honour the long-running series. He said the coins offer fans a tangible connection to the franchise and its history. Paramount, the company that owns the Star Trek intellectual property, also highlighted the significance of the release. Ruth Henriquez of Paramount noted the franchise's dedicated collector base and described the coins as a tribute to six decades of Star Trek.
