Two Royal Navy captains are facing separate legal proceedings over allegations of sexual offences. Captain Richard Cragg, a nuclear engineer, has been charged with groping a colleague during his posting at the Ministry of Defence in London. Cragg denied the allegation last week during a preliminary hearing at Bulford military court and is scheduled to stand trial in November.
This case follows the recent announcement that Captain Chris Ansell, 49, who served as the second-in-command of the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, faces charges of rape and sexual assault. Ansell is expected to enter a plea at Bulford military court later this week. He previously appeared in the BBC documentary "The Warship: Tour of Duty."
Both cases are being handled within the military justice system, reflecting heightened scrutiny of conduct within the Royal Navy’s senior ranks. The outcomes of these proceedings could have significant implications for the service’s reputation and ongoing efforts to address misconduct and maintain standards across its command structure.
