The Royal Oman Police (ROP), through its Directorate-General of Customs, has clarified the rules governing customs duty exemptions for travelers entering Oman. Under the current regulations, exemptions apply to personal use items and gifts with a total value not exceeding 300 Omani rials (RO). Goods intended for commercial purposes are explicitly excluded from this exemption.

To qualify, travelers must be at least 18 years old and should not be classified as frequent fliers, according to the Directorate-General. These criteria seek to facilitate passenger movement through Oman's entry points while preventing the exploitation of customs exemptions for commercial gain.

Officials emphasized that the customs duty exemption framework aims to support fair trade practices and protect the national economy. Travelers are advised to familiarize themselves with customs regulations before arrival and to declare any goods that surpass the exemption limit or require specific permits. Maintaining purchase receipts for higher-value items is also recommended to expedite clearance procedures.

The Directorate-General of Customs is actively engaged in educational outreach to inform travelers about customs obligations and procedures. These initiatives are intended to enhance the efficiency and experience of customs clearance at Oman's airports, seaports, and land border crossings.
