Royston Town secured a late draw against Marlow in a dynamic encounter that ended 3-3 at Marlow’s home ground on Saturday. The match featured six goals and a dramatic finish, highlighting an intense contest between the two sides.
The opening moments saw Marlow pressing aggressively. Within the first minute, Naheer Nawaf had an opportunity close to goal but was unable to convert. Marlow’s early dominance paid off shortly afterward, beginning with a chance that originated from a Royston corner clearance. Nawaf quickly fed Flavio Gyuawu-Kyem on the opposite wing, who then combined with Shamar Moore before scoring to give Marlow the lead. The hosts continued their momentum as Moore doubled their advantage, capitalizing on a cross from Nawaf.
Facing a two-goal deficit, Royston turned to set pieces to spark their resurgence. Following a corner knockdown, Marlow’s Moore was adjudged to have fouled Kian Harness inside the box, resulting in a penalty. Joe Iaciofano stepped up to reduce the deficit, sending Marlow’s goalkeeper Matt Burrows the wrong way.
Both teams pushed for further goals in the first half, with Royston especially threatening late in the period. Iaciofano’s angled shot was saved by Burrows, keeping the score at 2-1 at halftime.
Royston started the second half strongly, soon equalizing from a corner. Captain Taylor Parr reacted quickest in the box to level the match. However, Marlow regained the lead around the 65th minute through Nawaf, who finished off a move initiated by Gyawu-Kyem on the left wing. Gyawu-Kyem’s shot was parried by Royston’s Elliot Krasniqi but fell perfectly for Nawaf to score into an open net.
The match tense in its closing stages turned decisively when Marlow’s Shamar Moore received a red card, reducing the home side to ten men. Shortly thereafter, substitute Andronicos Georgiou fired in from about 25 yards to salvage a late point for Royston, ensuring the game ended in a 3-3 draw.
Marlow’s goalkeeper Chris Ovenden was named man of the match for his contributions throughout the contest.
The result leaves both teams sharing points in what was a compelling non-league fixture marked by attacking intent and moments of individual skill.
