Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to open the final bridge of the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project this Friday, marking the completion of a major infrastructure initiative costing over Dh696 million. The newly completed 1,000-metre, two-lane bridge will handle approximately 3,000 vehicles per hour, specifically serving traffic traveling from Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street.

The new bridge is expected to significantly reduce travel time and congestion at one of Dubai’s busiest intersections. The journey from Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street will decrease from six minutes to just one, while the average waiting time at the roundabout is projected to drop sharply from 12 minutes to 90 seconds. This development is part of a broader project that includes the construction of five bridges with a combined length of 5 kilometers, aimed at improving traffic flow and increasing the overall road network capacity in the city.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated that the project supports Dubai’s rapid urban, population, and economic growth. He emphasized that these enhancements will bolster the emirate’s position as a global hub for business, investment, and tourism, and contribute to an integrated, sustainable mobility system that improves the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

The World Trade Centre Roundabout is a key traffic node linking Sheikh Zayed Road with five major streets including Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Za’abeel Palace Street, and Al Majlis Street. The area served by the project includes vital economic and commercial hubs such as Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai International Financial Centre, and several prominent residential and mixed-use neighborhoods including Za’abeel, Al Satwa, Al Karama, Al Jafiliya, and Al Mankhool. The development is estimated to benefit over 500,000 people living or working in the vicinity.

Additionally, the RTA highlighted that the World Trade Centre Roundabout project complements ongoing improvements on Al Mustaqlal Street. That project, scheduled for completion in 2027, involves expanding the road to four lanes in each direction, along with the construction of bridges and tunnels totaling 1.5 kilometers. These upgrades are designed to increase road capacity by 33 percent and reduce travel times along this important corridor, further enhancing traffic circulation and connectivity in the area.
