Rugby Borough players Ellis Myles and Cameron Collins have taken an active role in constructing the club’s new stand at their Kilsby Lane stadium, contributing both their time and skills to a project aimed at enhancing the matchday experience for fans and the local community.
The construction effort involved a collaboration between first-team players, club coaches, and volunteers, many of whom are skilled tradespeople. The initiative was supported by Stanley, a building tools and equipment supplier that serves as an official partner to prominent football clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, FC Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, and Lyon. Stanley funded the new stand, which will be officially unveiled during a Stanley takeover event scheduled for Saturday’s home fixture against Boldmere St Michaels.
Rugby Borough, competing in the Northern Premier League Midlands division, began as Rugby Town Juniors in 1994. Since then, it has expanded significantly, now encompassing approximately 60 teams, more than 1,000 junior players, and close to 200 volunteers. The club offers a development pathway from age 18 months through to the senior first team and has earned recognition as Community Club of the Year on three occasions.
The official opening day will feature a fan zone, distribution of free matchday scarves, and a raffle, with all proceeds designated to support the club. Raffle prizes include tickets to Tottenham Hotspur matches and a signed England shirt.
Rugby Borough captain Ellis Myles expressed pride in the players’ hands-on involvement, noting the personal connection fostered by contributing to the stadium’s infrastructure. “Every time we come out to the pitch, I can look at something and go, ‘Yeah, that’s something I built,’” he said. Myles emphasized the club’s ongoing mission to bring people together through football and highlighted the practical benefits of the new stand’s roof in providing shelter during colder months.
Similarly, Cameron Collins reflected on the significance of the stand for his family. “My niece and nephew love coming down here and my dad comes every week, so it’ll be nice to look over and see them in a stand I helped to build,” he stated.
The new facility represents a milestone for Rugby Borough as it continues to grow its community presence and strengthen ties with supporters.
