North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has dismissed recent speculation regarding his health and reported death following the release of photographs showing him at a public event in Pyongyang. The images, published by North Korea’s official state media on Monday, depict the 42-year-old supreme leader alongside his 13-year-old daughter, Kim Ju Ae, as they toured a clothing and footwear exhibition.
The photographs appear to show Kim examining various items, including footwear and a woman’s coat displayed on a mannequin, while accompanied by a group of aides. North Korean media stated that the images were taken on Monday, though independent verification of this timing has not been possible.
The release follows claims made by Chinese dissident Xie Wanjun, chairman of the China Democracy Party and based in the United States, who alleged that Kim had suffered a severe cerebral hemorrhage and fallen into a coma. Xie also asserted that Kim died in a Beijing hospital and that his body had been quietly returned to North Korea, with authorities suppressing information about his death. These claims have not been substantiated by independent sources.
South Korean officials, including diplomatic and intelligence personnel, have reportedly found no evidence supporting the rumors of Kim’s demise. Xie Wanjun further contributed to speculation by suggesting that Chinese President Xi Jinping experienced a stroke during his recent visit to the United States, though these assertions likewise remain unconfirmed.
The circulation of unverified reports regarding Kim’s health has previously occurred, often generating regional and international attention. The latest state media photographs appear aimed at countering such rumors and affirming Kim’s continued leadership.
