Russell Brand, the British comedian and actor, has gone on trial at London’s Southwark Crown Court facing multiple charges of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault involving six women over a period spanning 1999 to 2009. Brand, 51, denies all allegations made against him.

Prosecutors allege that Brand engaged in a decade-long pattern of predatory behavior, exploiting his public profile during the height of his career to pursue and assault women. The incidents, according to court testimony, occurred in various settings including workplaces, a hotel room during a Labour Party conference, and Brand’s home. The prosecution described him as a “ruthless, calculated and manipulative sexual predator” driven by a “voracious” sexual appetite and an indifference to consent.

The earliest claim involves an alleged rape in 1999 at a hotel in Bournemouth, where a woman said Brand pinned her down after performing at a Labour Party cabaret event. Witnesses have testified that Brand bragged about wanting to have sex with thousands of women and shared methods for seduction that involved telling women “what they want to hear.” A former friend and roommate, Mark Pinheiro, recounted statements Brand made about his sexual ambitions and described him as undeterred by rejection.

Allegations presented in the trial include an attack on a woman working at MTV in 2001, during which Brand reportedly attempted to drag her into a men’s toilet; a 2004 incident in London's Soho where he allegedly groped and orally raped a TV worker; an assault on a radio worker in 2004 or 2005; and two further sexual assaults alleged to have occurred in 2009, one involving a fan at Brand’s home and another involving a TV crew member.

The complainants, who do not know each other, came forward following a 2023 documentary that brought these allegations into public view. The prosecution asserts Brand’s behavior was marked by a sense of entitlement and manipulation, describing women as “means to an end” to fulfill his desires, often ignoring their objections.

Brand, now residing in the United States and known for his work as a YouTube commentator and religious influencer, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. His defense has not been outlined in detail during the opening stages of the trial.

The proceedings, which began on October 12, 2026, are ongoing. The court continues to hear evidence as the case unfolds.
