Russian strikes on Ukraine’s industrial region overnight resulted in four fatalities, Ukrainian officials reported on Tuesday. The attacks took place hours before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the United Nations in New York.

According to Ukrainian military sources, their forces targeted Russian oil infrastructure in retaliation. The Ukrainian military said it had struck an oil refinery in Ufa, situated more than 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, as well as the Kuibyshev refinery in the Samara region along the Volga River.

In response, the governor of the Samara region reported that Ukrainian drones had hit civilian areas within the region, causing one death and wounding four others. Both Ukrainian and Russian officials deny intentionally targeting civilian populations amid the ongoing conflict.

These developments come amid continued hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides engaging in strategic attacks deep within each other’s territories. The strike on Ufa represents one of the longer-range attacks reported by Ukrainian forces, while the strikes in the Samara region underscore the volatile nature of the conflict that has extended beyond frontline combat zones.
