The Russian Embassy in Kuwait hosted a reception on June 13 to mark Russia’s National Day, underscoring the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between Russia and Kuwait. Russian Ambassador to Kuwait Vladimir Zheltov highlighted the deep historical ties and ongoing cooperation between the two countries, while also addressing broader regional and international issues.

Ambassador Zheltov described Kuwait as a trusted partner and close friend of Russia, praising the Kuwaiti leadership for its balanced and forward-looking approach to regional and global challenges. He noted that bilateral relations extend beyond the formal establishment of diplomatic ties in 1963, pointing to initial contacts dating back to the early 20th century, when Russian naval vessels visited Kuwait Bay during the era of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah.

The ambassador outlined the growth of cooperation between Russia and Kuwait across various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, military-technical collaboration, culture, education, and humanitarian exchanges. He also emphasized tourism as a burgeoning area of mutual interest and a promising channel for strengthening people-to-people connections.

On regional security, Zheltov called for multilateral diplomatic efforts to address instability in the Middle East, advocating for the creation of a comprehensive collective security framework in the Gulf region. Such a framework, he said, would help prevent conflicts and ensure security for all parties involved, fostering trust and regional cooperation. This position reflects Russia's broader support for an international order based on sovereign equality, adherence to international law, and the principle of indivisible security.

Regarding the situation in Eastern Europe, the ambassador characterized the current crisis as stemming from the failure to consider Russia’s legitimate security concerns, particularly NATO's continued expansion toward Russian borders. He stressed Russia’s commitment to safeguarding its national interests, sovereignty, and the security of its citizens.

Zheltov further reiterated Russia's enduring view of the Arab world as a dependable partner, emphasizing relations grounded in mutual respect, trust, and non-interference in internal affairs. He conveyed confidence that the relationship between Russia and Kuwait would continue to develop and strengthen, contributing positively to the interests of both countries and the broader stability of the region.

The event was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Suleiman Al-Mashaan, senior Kuwaiti officials, diplomats, and members of the diplomatic corps, reflecting the importance both countries place on maintaining and advancing their bilateral ties.
