Russian forces carried out a large-scale overnight airstrike against multiple Ukrainian cities, employing ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, Ukrainian officials reported on Sunday.

In Kharkiv, Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed the death of a 40-year-old woman and reported nine additional injuries, including a 10-year-old boy. The capital city of Kiev also sustained damage, with Mayor Vitali Klitschko stating that at least three people were wounded. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service noted that the attacks ignited fires across three districts in Kiev, which were subsequently extinguished. The strikes resulted in damage to a warehouse, 11 vehicles, and several buildings.

President Volodymyr Zelensky provided further details on the scale of the assault, stating that Russian forces launched eight missile and cruise missile strikes accompanied by 136 drones. He added that over the past week, nearly 1,700 drones, more than 1,630 guided glide bombs, and 95 missiles—including both cruise and ballistic missiles—had been used in attacks against Ukraine. According to Zelensky, more than half of these missiles were ballistic.

Zelensky condemned the use of ballistic missiles, labeling the attacks as “ballistic terror.” He emphasized the urgent need for Ukraine’s international partners to supply advanced air defense systems and interceptor missiles. “Every interceptor missile saves lives when it is in Ukraine rather than sitting in our partners’ warehouses,” he said, underscoring the critical importance of timely military assistance.

Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has faced sustained military pressure, with ongoing air and missile strikes targeting infrastructure and civilian areas. The latest attacks illustrate the continued intensity of the conflict as Ukraine seeks to strengthen its defensive capabilities amid persistent Russian offensives.
