Ukrainian and Russian officials reported at least 11 fatalities in recent attacks on Saturday amid ongoing hostilities between the two countries.
Moscow-installed authorities in the partially Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia region said Ukrainian forces targeted tourist resorts, resulting in the deaths of eight people, including two children. Yevgeny Balitsky, the Kremlin-appointed regional head, stated the attack also left 14 individuals wounded. Ukrainian officials had not immediately responded to the allegation.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, three people were killed following a Russian drone strike on Friday. Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy regional administration, indicated that a large fire erupted after the drone hit a civilian facility, specifying that the victims were drivers working for Nova Poshta, a private Ukrainian postal and courier service.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed conducting an operation in the Sumy region, targeting what it described as a “storage and launch site” for Ukrainian drones.
In a separate incident, Ivan Fedorov, the Zaporizhzhia regional head, reported a Russian drone strike late Friday on a shopping center in his territory. The attack caused a fire spreading across approximately 500 square meters and injured several people.
On Friday, a significant Russian missile attack struck a location near Kyiv hosting a defense industry event. The assault resulted in at least 10 deaths and nearly 100 injuries, underscoring a continued escalation of conflict in and around Ukraine’s capital.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressing the nation on Friday evening, warned that intelligence assessments suggested Russia was preparing missile strikes, potentially within a 48-hour window.
Adding to regional tensions, Romania’s defense ministry announced on Saturday that its military forces had successfully intercepted a drone that violated Romanian airspace near the Ukrainian border. Romanian President Nicușor Dan confirmed the drone was shot down by an F-16 pilot in an unpopulated area, emphasizing the country’s vigilance amidst the escalating conflict.
These incidents reflect an intensification of hostilities and civilian casualties as the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to affect adjacent regions.
