A Russian drone struck a school building in Kyiv on Thursday amid a sustained wave of aerial attacks on the Ukrainian capital, city officials reported. The incident occurred while students and staff were sheltering inside, and although the drone’s warhead failed to detonate, it left a large hole in the building’s brick facade, exposing an interior staircase. No injuries were reported.
Kyiv has faced a series of relentless drone and missile strikes in recent weeks, triggering frequent air-raid alerts and loud explosions. Local officials and security analysts characterize the attacks as part of a broader strategy aimed at intimidating the civilian population.
The continuous assault has taken a visible toll on residents. Maryna Lystopad, a 35-year-old Kyiv resident, described the mounting psychological pressure, saying the stress caused her hair loss and prompted thoughts of leaving the city.
In response to the ongoing threat, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky conducted a conference call with top military and government officials responsible for infrastructure defense. He announced that the Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry would reassess existing agreements with international partners concerning the supply of ammunition for Ukraine’s air-defense systems and F-16 fighter jets. An updated delivery schedule is expected to be provided within the next 24 hours.
