Russian forces maintained pressure on Ukraine’s Kyiv region on Thursday with continued drone strikes, hitting residential buildings and storage facilities in a sustained aerial campaign, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks marked a second consecutive day of bombardment, which effectively shut down much of the Ukrainian capital for approximately 15 hours.

The reported strikes in and around Kyiv damaged 14 warehouses, 16 private houses, three apartment buildings, and 16 vehicles. Among the incidents was a "double tap" attack, in which a second drone targeted a site shortly after emergency responders arrived, a tactic intended to hinder rescue efforts and cause further casualties. The assaults resulted in one confirmed death and two injuries.

Further south in Ukraine’s Kherson region, where Russian glide bomb strikes had forced the shutdown of a key heat and power plant the previous day, local officials warned residents to leave if possible. They forecast extended outages this winter due to the damage sustained in the area’s critical infrastructure along the Black Sea coast.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 512 Ukrainian drones overnight over multiple Russian regions, including the strategically significant, internationally unrecognized territory of Crimea and areas near the Black Sea. Ukrainian forces also conducted a counterstrike on the Slavneft-Yanos refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl region during the same period, demonstrating the ongoing cross-border exchanges of aerial attacks.

The exchange highlights the increasing use of drones and precision strikes in the protracted conflict, with both sides sustaining damage to civilian and military infrastructure. The sustained drone campaign in the Kyiv region and power disruptions in the south underline the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine in maintaining security, particularly ahead of the winter months.
