A Russian serviceman was killed and his wife injured in a car bomb explosion on the outskirts of St Petersburg on Thursday, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred in the Pushkinsky suburb, according to the city’s Investigative Committee, which did not disclose the victim’s identity or military rank.

This attack is the latest in a series of explosive incidents targeting individuals linked to Russia’s military operations amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Several such blasts have taken place within Russian territory, often involving figures connected to the war effort. Moscow has at times blamed Kyiv for orchestrating some of these attacks, though no group has claimed responsibility for the recent incidents.

Earlier this month, a factory director involved in producing drones for the Russian military was seriously injured in a similar car bomb near Yekaterinburg, with his driver killed in the blast. Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects or motives related to that explosion.

The recent developments come amid intensified Russian missile and drone attacks on cities across Ukraine. Overnight strikes continued into the morning in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, where explosions were reported throughout the day. These attacks are part of ongoing hostilities that have escalated in recent weeks, as both sides continue to engage in military operations.
