Ruth Jones, known for her role as Nessa in the BBC sitcom "Gavin & Stacey," has begun filming a new comedy titled "Better Later" for BBC Wales. The six-part series is set to premiere next year and will be shot in Wales.
In a departure from her signature jet-black hairstyle, Jones appears with noticeably grey hair for her role as Shelley, an environmental health officer. The show centers on the unexpected friendship between Shelley and Clive, a retired teacher played by Steve Speirs, known for his work in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. The two characters meet at a knee trauma clinic, which forms the backdrop for the series’ storyline.
"Better Later" marks a shift in tone for Jones, whose recent work includes a more intense role in the high-energy thriller "Run Away," adapted from Harlan Coben’s novel and streamed on Netflix earlier this year. In contrast, her character in the new comedy is expected to explore a gentler dynamic.
The project adds to the growing slate of BBC comedies produced in Wales, continuing the broadcaster’s investment in regional content. Further details regarding the series’ release date and episode specifics are yet to be announced.
