Ryan Moore is set to make his second appearance in the Shergar Cup at Ascot on Saturday, joining rising star Dylan Browne McMonagle as part of the Great Britain and Ireland team. Moore, who secured the Silver Saddle award as the leading rider in the team competition during his sole previous outing in 2006, became available for the event after the Phoenix Stakes were scheduled for the following day at the Curragh, while there will be no flat racing in Ireland on the day of the Shergar Cup.

Moore will team up with McMonagle and Saffie Osborne in representing Great Britain and Ireland. McMonagle has enjoyed a successful season, winning the Epsom Oaks aboard Thundering On in June and following up with a victory in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Johanna Walsh.

The Shergar Cup will also feature, for the first time, a team from the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Vincent Ho, who previously secured a Shergar Cup win as part of the Rest of the World team in 2019, will captain the squad. He will be joined by Jerry Chau and Luke Ferraris.

Europe will be led by Christophe Lemaire, accompanied by Marie Velon and Frida Valle Skar. The Rest of the World team will once again be captained by Jamie Melham, with Japan’s Yutake Take and Suraj Narredu completing the lineup. Narredu played a key role in guiding the Asia team to victory in last year’s competition.

Will Aitkenhead, Ascot’s head of corporate and industry affairs, expressed enthusiasm about the confirmed participants, highlighting Moore and McMonagle’s recent performances. “It’s absolutely fantastic to have Ryan and Dylan on board. Both had very strong Royal Ascots, with Ryan the leading jockey, and both had very good weeks at Goodwood,” he said.
