Ryan Moore played a pivotal role as Team Great Britain & Ireland secured victory in the Shergar Cup at Ascot on Saturday. Returning to the competition for the first time since 2006, Moore delivered a series of strong performances that helped his team claim the title.

Moore’s contributions began when he guided Shrimp Shady, the 11/10 favorite, to a second-place finish behind Dancing In Paris and L J Ferraris in the Stayers’ race. He followed this with a winning ride on Asgard’s Captain, trained by Dylan Cunha, in the Challenge race. Moore then extended his team’s lead with a commanding victory aboard Marco Botti’s Archers Bay in another event. He ultimately secured the overall win for the home squad when Ozat finished third to Crown Board in the final race.

For his efforts, Moore was awarded the Silver Saddle as the leading jockey of the competition. Meanwhile, Saffie Osborne, making her debut as captain for Great Britain & Ireland, contributed by winning the Sprint race on Red Spells Danger, a joint-favorite at 2/1 odds. Trained by Tim Easterby, Red Spells Danger returned to peak form to defeat Thunder Call, also 2/1 joint-favorite, by a length.

Team Great Britain & Ireland amassed a total of 81 points to outpace Hong Kong, while Rest of the World finished in fourth place. Moore commented on his return, saying, “I had nothing else on today so it’s nice to be here. It is nice to see many of the best jockeys in the world at this event.”

The Shergar Cup, held annually at Ascot Racecourse, brings together jockeys from different regions to compete in a unique team format, blending top-level competition with a festive atmosphere for racing fans. This year’s edition showcased strong riding and strategic teamwork, underscoring the event’s appeal within the international racing calendar.
