Elena Rybakina secured her fourth title of the 2026 season by defeating Canada’s Leylah Fernandez 6-2, 6-2 in the final of the Ningbo Open on Sunday. The victory marks Rybakina’s successful defense of her title at the event, held in the eastern Chinese city, and adds to her already impressive campaign that has seen her claim two Grand Slam trophies this year: the Australian Open and the US Open.
Rybakina, currently ranked world number one, took just 76 minutes to close out the match and did not lose her serve throughout the final, breaking Fernandez’s serve twice in each set. The 27-year-old Kazakh player credited Ningbo as a significant venue in her career, noting that last year’s tournament was a turning point in her form. With this win, she leads the tour in titles won during the season and moves closer to securing the year-end number one ranking.
“This is my second year here and my second win,” Rybakina said after the match. She expressed confidence in her performance this week and optimism heading into upcoming tournaments, including the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo and the season-ending event in Indian Wells, California, which begins November 8. Reflecting on her recent form, Rybakina acknowledged earlier setbacks in Beijing and Wuhan but emphasized her ability to improve with each match.
Fernandez, ranked 30th globally and a Singapore Open champion last month, started the second set strongly but was ultimately outplayed. Despite the loss, the 24-year-old Canadian remained positive about her season’s progress. “I’d like to congratulate Elena for a wonderful week and a wonderful year,” she said. Fernandez also reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining strong form through the end of the year following a demanding stretch of matches.
Rybakina’s commanding performance, driven by her powerful baseline game and strategic shot-making, underlined her status as one of the leading figures on the women’s tour this season. As she prepares for the upcoming Pan Pacific Open, she expressed a desire to carry the momentum forward, hoping the confidence gained in Ningbo will fuel her through the remaining events of 2026.
