The Atlantic, a meticulously crafted replica of the iconic 1903 racing schooner, is set to embark on an ambitious global voyage starting in early 2027. This 65-meter classic yacht, once the largest private vessel of its time, was originally built to shatter transatlantic speed records and has been reborn to offer passengers a rare experience that blends maritime heritage with modern luxury.

Constructed in 2010, the current Atlantic faithfully reproduces the original yacht’s design, renowned for its record-breaking 1905 crossing from Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Lizard Point, Cornwall. That voyage, led by Scottish-American captain Charlie Barr, set a record that stood until 1980, defying fierce storms and rival vessels. Today’s Atlantic carries forward this legacy as the largest replica schooner afloat, maintaining much of the original rigging and sail plan while integrating contemporary comforts below deck.

Following a recent appearance at the Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez regatta, the vessel returned to port for a thorough refit in Marseille, including extensive varnishing, teak deck maintenance, and rigging upgrades. After completing this work, she will begin her circumnavigation, planned to take about five years and involve stops in the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal to the Pacific—including French Polynesia, the Antipodes, Indonesia, and Japan—before advancing to the Indian Ocean, East Africa, and back to the Mediterranean. There is potential for additional destinations such as Brazil and Patagonia, depending on conditions and interests.

The yacht’s captain since launch, Fosse Fortuin, emphasized the significance of the voyage as an opportunity “to stretch her legs,” underscoring the deep affection and respect the crew have for the vessel. The Atlantic is regarded not only as a high-performance sailing craft but also as a living embodiment of yachting’s golden era, inspiring enthusiasm and romanticism among both crew and guests.

Accommodations aboard have been updated to host up to 12 guests in six cabins, blending period elegance with modern amenities such as hot water showers and even a bathtub in the main suite. Charter rates start at around £150,000 per week, inclusive of meals and wine, catering to a niche market seeking an immersive yet refined maritime adventure.

Charters will prioritize ocean passages augmented by collaborations with local specialists, designed to expand traditional yachting itineraries into a broader exploratory experience. The crew, described as passionate enthusiasts, offer a professional yet relaxed atmosphere, facilitating guests’ engagement with the yacht’s sailing operations without compromising safety or comfort.

As the Atlantic sets course from the Mediterranean towards distant seas, the vessel prepares to rewrite the narrative of classic superyacht expeditions. Beyond a luxury charter, the journey promises an immersive encounter with both maritime history and the elemental beauty of the open ocean, navigated under the watchful stewardship of a dedicated team committed to honoring a legendary name.
