Declan John has committed his future to St Mirren by signing a new two-year contract with the Scottish Premiership club. The 30-year-old Welsh international has become a pivotal figure for the Buddies since initially joining on a short-term deal in November 2024. After securing a two-year contract in March 2025, John has now extended his stay with the Paisley side.
Since joining St Mirren, John has made 62 appearances, contributing to 14 goals overall. Notably, he provided an assist for the third goal in the club’s Premier Sports Cup Final victory over Celtic last season. However, his campaign was disrupted as he missed the final six matches, including the crucial Premiership play-off final, due to hernia surgery.
Speaking about his contract extension, John expressed satisfaction with the club’s faith in him and his optimism about the coming seasons. “I’ve loved my time with the club since I’ve been here over the last two seasons,” he said. “I’m really happy to get it done and hopefully we have another two good years with the club. The club has shown really good faith in me over the last couple of seasons. I think I’ve done quite well over my time at the club and it’s nice for the club to come forward and offer me the extension.”
John is currently rebuilding his fitness and has been participating in running sessions over the past two weeks as he prepares for the new campaign. “I’m probably not quite there yet but I’m really not far away from it at all,” he added.
St Mirren will be looking to build on last season’s successes, including the Premier Sports Cup triumph and their Premiership play-off win, with John’s continued contributions expected to play a key role.
