An employee was recently observed harvesting salmon at an aquaculture facility operated by Longyang Fresh (Qinghai) Co in Longyangxia, located in China’s Qinghai province. The Longyangxia site has become the country’s largest and most advanced high-altitude cold-water fish export hub.

Qinghai province dominates China’s cold-water fish export market, accounting for more than 98 percent of the nation’s total shipments. Products from the region, including salmon and other cold-water fish species, are distributed to over ten countries and regions internationally, underscoring the growing significance of Qinghai’s aquaculture industry in global seafood supply chains.

The development of such large-scale cold-water fish farming in Qinghai reflects both the province’s natural environmental advantages and advancements in aquaculture technology. Positioned at high altitudes with suitable cold-water conditions, Longyangxia offers an ideal setting for cultivating species like salmon, enabling the company to meet increasing demand from abroad.

This expansion in Qinghai’s aquaculture sector aligns with broader efforts to diversify China’s seafood production and increase exports amid changing market dynamics.
