Sam Fender has set a new record in the UK music charts, surpassing a 73-year-old milestone for the longest-running number one single. His song "Rein Me In," featuring Olivia Dean and released in June 2025, has held the top spot on the UK charts for 19 consecutive weeks.

The previous record was held by Frankie Laine’s "I Believe," which reached number one in 1953, during the tenure of Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Fender, 32, from North Shields, expressed his astonishment and gratitude upon receiving an award from the Official Charts Company, acknowledging the achievement. He credited both Olivia Dean and his fans for the song’s sustained success.

Becca Monahan and Chris Austin, interim co-managing directors at the Official Charts Company, described the accomplishment as "a fantastic moment to celebrate British creativity," especially notable in an era where UK artists face intense global competition. They noted that the record-breaking number one will be remembered as a significant chapter in British music history.

“Rein Me In” also garnered critical acclaim, winning Song of the Year at the BRIT Awards in February. The single’s success has contributed to elevating Olivia Dean’s international profile, as she has collected multiple prestigious awards over the past year, including Grammys, MOBOs, and BRIT Awards.

This week’s UK charts also feature Shakira and Burna Boy’s "Dai Dai," the official anthem of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, which sits at number two. Ella Langley’s "Choosin Texas" holds the third position.
